Hats Off To All Of The Graduates!

Willie McGinest graduation

Now that we’re in the middle of June, almost all graduations have happened by now. I was thrilled to see my goddaughter graduate from high school on Thursday. I am so proud of her for staying focused and committed to her studies.

This is a special time of the year. Graduation, no matter the age, is always an exciting time. Whether you’re participating in graduation or simply attending, it’s always enjoyable to see everyone move on to the next level.

The kids that I’ve coached over the years are growing up so fast. To watch them graduating from middle school, high school and college and move on to bigger things is a rewarding experience.

I’ve been running around from graduation to graduation equipped with noisemakers and balloons, and of course celebrating at graduation parties. It’s something that will never get old to me. This is especially the case for my former athletes that I’ve coached in youth sports graduating high school with academic and athletic scholarships.

I always remind my student-athletes that education is the path to a better future.

Graduation means change whether it is in school or sports. The youth football players from the Long Beach Patriots program are graduating onto the next level of football. I’m interested in seeing what’s in store for these young men as they begin summer practices and seven on seven competitions after graduating from the youth level and move on to the competitive nature of Southern California high school football.

Hats off to all of the graduates!
